THE KIDNAPPING OF EUROPE

This mythological story about the kidnapping of Europe is a story about beauty, naiveté, desire, omnipotence and values, which are over time replaced by fear, paranoia, decay and chaos under the influence of many circumstances. It is equally a story about contrasts and the phenomenon of withdrawal into one's inner world, which contrasts with the world of nomads, migrants or wayfarers. The clash of these distinct worlds becomes a foreshadowing of slavery, war, death and the spilling of blood. Contemporary Europe is literally becoming a fulfilment and a physical representation of ancient Greek mythology. The kidnapping of Europe is stripped of its figurativeness and brought into the reality. And man is always the one behind it. Or is it so?

Impromptu

God, who became man, is suddenly standing in the middle of a desert. He feels unbearable heat, he feels thirst, he feels much more. He is starting to doubt his decision. He notices a snake, which has stopped right in front of him, watching him in fascination. It lets itself be captured. As a human needing to make decisions, God decides to hang himself using the snake. However, there are no trees on the desert. There is also a question of which tree wouldn’t cave under the weight of God.

God sets out towards the sea, snake in his hand, to sail to a more welcoming land. Once he reaches the ship, however, they ask him for a passport. After he is told that he is a nobody without a passport, just a cipher, He replies, I am who I am, and the men roar in laughter. How does it end?
I think that he drowns as well.

Peter Lomnický

Time present and time past are both perhaps present in time future. And time future contained in time past. If all time is eternally present, all time is unredeemable. Or say that the end precedes the beginning. The end and the beginning were always there. Before the beginning and after the end. And all is eternally present.

T.S. Eliot

On the run:

The number four as a symbolic way towards the centre of the play (combinatorics) and towards the structure of the play. The divine heavenly cow with four teats on its udder, and out of them, four rivers of milk flowing in four directions. In the book of Genesis, four rivers of paradise flow around the world. The Bible speaks of four cherubim and the apocryphal book of Enoch of four archangels as an image of God’s power spreading into the four corners of the world. Buddha proclaimed four basic noble truths. Old Buddhist mysticism also recognized four stages of deep collectedness on the way to ecstasy.

“The hell of the living is not something that will be. If there is one, it is what is already here, the hell we live in every day, that we make by being together. There are two ways to escape suffering it. The first is easy for many: accept the hell, and become such a part of it that you can no longer see it. The second is risky and demands constant vigilance and apprehension: seek and learn to recognize who and what, in the midst of hell, are not hell, then make them endure, give them space.”

Italo Calvino

In the age between governments, old forms are disintegrating, everything is decaying and the new is unable to be born. Progress is transformed into a fight for survival. It doesn’t denote advancing forward, but rather escaping the present disaster. Life is becoming a series of ever-changing episodes with no room for questioning the purpose of life. Are we on a ship of fools swimming around Europe or are we in hell with the Europe which has been kidnapped?

One simply cannot stop playing between the sentences. We play attacca, without stopping. Only if one of the players has a replica does he stop, say something and resume. Does it express any sort of value found between the coincidental events in life? If you play for that long, your instruments won’t stay in tune and each of them starts to sound different. Do we fight till the very end and adapt to others? Even if we’re out of tune?

Koniec a začiatok tu vždy boli. Pred začiatkom aj po konci. A všetko je navždy súčasnosť.

T.S. Eliot

Iba vtedy, keď majú hráči repliku, jeden z nich zastaví, niečo povie a pokračuje ďalej. Vyjadruje to nejakú hodnotu medzi náhodnými udalosťami života?
